Assistant Engineer - HLB Engineering team

This is a full time vacancy.

Due to increasing workloads in our HLB Engineering team with our Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) client, our office in Hertford now has a challenging opportunity for an experienced Assistant Highways Civils Engineer to work on a large portfolio of schemes across the county. The ability to move from one project to another proficiently is essential for successful project outcomes.

The team works closely with colleagues in Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and dealing with Members on regular occasions. Managing expectations is a significant challenge, and due to the processes involved in work of this nature, the team has to communicate realistic timescales in terms of the completion of the projects.

Key responsibilities

• Readily able to diplomatically and knowledgeably communicate with a broad cross-section of stakeholders including, but not limited to, members of the public, representative groups, colleagues and County Councillors
• Dealing with parking restriction orders (PTRO), safety schemes, pedestrian crossings, road signing, parking, etc.
• Interpreted and communicated legislation, regulations, policies, strategies and technical guidance across the team as appropriated and cases for departures are authorised and presented for approval.
• Projects/tasks are planned and delivered to time, quality and budget and others may be supervised
• Preparation of technical designs, drawings and documents using specialist software in accordance with approved design procedures and systems.
• Understanding CDM, QM and EMS (SHEQ)

• A proven track record in meeting client expectations
• Experience dealing with parking restriction orders (PTRO), Safety schemes, Pedestrian crossings, Road signing, parking, etc.
• A strong technical background in Highways design.
• Relevant design software and standards and proficient in the production of engineering drawings, including AutoCAD and Sign Plot.
