Transport for the North (TfN) is England’s first Sub-National Transport Body. We were formed to transform the transport system across the North of England, providing the infrastructure needed to drive economic growth.

We bring together the North’s nineteen local transport authorities and business leaders together with Network Rail, Highways England, and HS2 Ltd and working with Central Government. We enable the North to speak with one voice on the transport infrastructure investment needed to drive transformational growth and rebalance the UK economy.

Our role is to add strategic value by ensuring that funding and strategy decisions about transport in the North are informed by local knowledge and requirements. This fits with the devolution agenda and we will draw powers down from central government rather than up from local government.

Our vision is of a thriving North of England, where modern transport connections drive economic growth and support an excellent quality of life.

TfN is looking to recruit the following role:
As Head of Stakeholder Engagement & Communications you will lead our Stakeholder Engagement & Communications Team, acting as a trusted advisor, providing recommendations and challenges to senior management to guide decision-making on matters that affect the strategic direction and the reputation of TfN.

You will be expected to contribute to the development of strategic objectives and lead the delivery of a holistic Communications Strategy for TfN.

What we’re looking for:
Educated to degree level of equivalent; the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of leading effective corporate communications functions including media relations, social media, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, conferences & events and e-communications.

You will be experienced in developing communications and engagement strategies on behalf of complex organisations and will be successful in representing organisations in public policy forums, or similar private sector grouping.

A sound understanding of local government political frameworks and how to operate within them is essential as is the ability to build productive working relationships with a variety of communities, partner bodies, private sector providers, Government, public agencies and statutory authorities.

Provisional Interview Date: Wednesday, 25 July 2018

In return, as well as a competitive salary, our other benefits include:
• 27 days holiday per annum
• Access to the local government pension scheme
• Various salary sacrifice schemes including a public transport season ticket loan scheme
