About the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC)
As the body responsible for providing independent analysis and advice to the government to help the UK meet its long-term infrastructure needs, the NIC’s work is both influential and of critical national importance, extending across all aspects of economic infrastructure to increase competitiveness, support sustainable economic growth and improve quality of life for all communities and regions of the UK. The agenda is exciting, wide-reaching and transformative, as the Government looks to rebuild the economy, invest heavily in capital projects, promote regional economic growth and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

About the role
Commissioners have a unique opportunity to look at the UK’s long-term infrastructure needs, make recommendations to the government and influence the government’s infrastructure priorities across multiple sectors, making links and shaping future infrastructure networks. They must be leaders in their field and be capable of considering the long-term development of the UK’s infrastructure landscape, whilst influencing at the highest levels to provide robust, independent advice to government.

The NIC is seeking a Commissioner with experience in the transport sector.

As a leader in your field, you will have senior level experience in transport or in a sector relevant to transport policy, planning and/or delivery. Having publicly represented organisations, you will bring well developed stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to provide robust, independent advice to the government at senior/board level; this will include the assessment of complex information, analysis and views from a diverse range of interested parties. The ability to consider the long-term development of the UK’s infrastructure landscape and understand the government’s infrastructure objectives within the wider policy, delivery and finance contexts will be essential and a comprehensive understanding of the transport sector and its infrastructure, at a national and regional level will be considered essential. With a track record of communicating and influencing at senior levels you will support the NIC addressing the UK’s long term transportation infrastructure needs.
