Based primarily at County Hall, flexible working is supported where possible, including working from home or from one of our area offices. New development in Surrey is wide ranging and diverse and the Transport Development Planning team plays an important role in supporting the delivery of some exciting projects.

Recent achievements include:

  • £2.3m transport infrastructure package to support redevelopment to offices and 200 houses near Chertsey.
  • £25.6m package of sustainable transport measures and highway works to enable the redevelopment of Woking Town Centre.
  • £10m of transport infrastructure to support the redevelopment of former barracks to provide 1200 houses, school and community uses including new bus services, upgrades to the Basingstoke Canal towpath and road safety and capacity improvements.
  • £21m of transport infrastructure to support the development of 2600 houses and associated community infrastructure at Horley.
  • New secondary school in Woking providing 840 places and provision of improved road safety measures with new signalised junction and cycleway on the A320.

Surrey County Council, in its capacity as Highway Authority, is a statutory consultee for planning applications across the County. Transport Development Planning responds to 20,000 planning applications annually and negotiates around £2.5 million of developer funding each year, to provide highway infrastructure and to maintain and improve the quality of Surrey’s environment.

As part of a dynamic team, you will help minimise the transport impact of development and facilitate developer funded improvements on Surrey’s transport network with the opportunity for active involvement in high profile development projects including town centre regeneration, major house building and the creation of new school places.

You will be expected to be a good communicator and will look to develop innovative solutions to a wide range of challenging issues. You will be expected to travel within Surrey for site visits and meetings.

 

The role is an entry level position and we are particularly looking for able and enthusiastic candidates who have recently graduated or who expect to graduate later this year seeking a career in transport planning or transport engineering.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position, your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:

  • Degree in a relevant subject - geography, town planning, civil engineering, transportation planning, or equivalent; OR 3 years transportation development control experience.
  • Knowledge of the town planning system.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills – working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Team player, flexible, adaptable, able to work under pressure.
