We need an experienced transport planning team leader to join our diverse team.

About us
Growth and Strategy:

Put yourself at the heart of our County’s future. Make a difference.

Buckinghamshire is facing an exciting period of major growth: £55 million of infrastructure investment, high-profile business developments at Pinewood and Silverstone, a new Garden Town at Aylesbury and an unprecedented range of national infrastructure schemes (including Crossrail, East West Rail, Heathrow and the Oxford-Cambridge Corridor), and much more to come!

We’re looking for a Lead Officer to join our Transport Strategy team working within Growth and Strategy. You will lead our transport policy and strategy development team, leading on key strategies and our response to major infrastructure projects including Heathrow and Oxford-Cambridge Expressway. Over the next 24 months we’ll be looking to recommission our countywide model as well as review our approach to transport planning to reflect the latest thinking in travel deman d and model development. Buckinghamshire are also a key member of the England Economic Heartlands Strategic Transport Forum, so you’ll need to see the big picture as well as the local details and the opportunity to be involved in regional working.
We are seeking to modernise our transport planning practices and exploring the opportunities to integrate technological innovations into our planning policies, strategies and mitigation proposals. You will be key to developing this approach and putting it into practise.
As a well as offering a great challenge, we offer you a great place to work, a new and invigorated team in an organization which is fast becoming more agile, commercial and digitally-focussed, exciting place to be. We’ll fully support you to give your best and fulfil your ambitions.

About the role
Influencing the surface access strategy for Heathrow, the route for the new Oxford-Cambridge Expressway, completing our Freight Strategy and putting it into action as well as keeping engaged with local plan examinations and managing our analytical tools – this is a wide ranging and influential role.

About you
What are the future transport needs of Buckinghamshire? You’ll help us decide. The National Infrastructure Commission has identified the need for 1,000,000 new homes in the Oxford-Cambridge Corridor and we’ll be working closely with DfT/DCLG, our districts and LEP on a Vision for 2050. In this context it will be your job to provide the recommendations and guidance that will shape our transport services policies and strategies. By undertaking research and talking to partners, you’ll amass the knowledge and insight we need to make big decisions. As this is a senior role, we’ll also look to you to assess and evaluate complex information and situations; suggesting solutions and interventions that help us meet our objectives.

It’s the sort of knowledge you might have gained while working in a previous transport planning or policy role – or possibly through your degree (or equivalent). In addition to these studies (in a rele vant technical subject), you’ll have developed polished communication skills, great people skills, political awareness and a good grasp of the factors influencing public sector transport. Exactly what you need to create effective policies and strategies.
We pride ourselves on our people-orientated approach so whether this is would be your first line management role or you’re already an experienced manager this is a role that will stretch you and encourage you to develop.
