An Exciting Time for transport in Brent
An exciting opportunity to shape transport in the borough has arisen. Brent’s population is growing and with this comes increased pressure on the borough’s transport network. We are looking for a Principal Transport Planner to join Brent and play a key role in helping develop the borough’s latest Local Implementation Plan.

We are a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The Post
The post holder will play a key role in implementing the Mayor’s Transport Strategy at a borough level through developing the Local Implementation Plan, in consultation with a range of stakeholders, including elected members.

Alongside a focus on strategic policy, the post holder will work on a variety of projects aimed at improving the transport offer in the borough, including, but not limited to increasing cycling provision and electric vehicle charging as well as high profile projects. The post is an excellent opportunity to be part of developing and implementing transport policy at ground level.

No day is the same with the post holder being actively involved in a range of work from the preparation of written responses to consultations, to representation of the borough at stakeholder meetings, and from liaison with both internal and external stakeholders to responding to queries from members of the public.

The post will require a high level of project management and the post holder will manage a more junior member of staff including monitoring of their development and performance.

This permanent post with flexible working arrangements is based at Brent Council’s award winning offices which are within walking distance of Wembley Park station.

The Person
The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills with fluent written and verbal English, and be adept at report writing and presenting to senior management and elected members.

Self-motivation, persistence and being able to demonstrate outstanding time management skills are key in order to ensure that often tight and changing timescales are met. In addition, expertise of both people and project management is vital.

A good understanding of transport policy at both local and national level is ideal with demonstrable experience of undertaking work in the wider transport context. An ability to interpret transport modelling outputs would be welcome.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook and will have several years’ post-qualification experience in transport planning. Applications are welcomed from experienced transport planners who are currently working in private consultancy.

Closing Date: 27 June 2019 (23:00)
