Transport Planning and Policy Officer - Strategic Transportation 

£24,313 - £25,295 per annum

37 hours per week

Working in the Strategic Transportation team, you will assist the Principal Officer Transport Planning & Strategy in researching, developing, implementing and monitoring the Authority’s transportation policies and strategies in the context of regional, national transportation and legislative guidance and to support co-ordination of the Authority’s Active Travel capital programme in accordance with the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 as well as providing transport policy input to the Local Development Plan (LDP) and Local Transport Plan (LTP).

You will also assist in researching transport and economic trends and use this to provide recommendations, suggest solutions and shape our future transport policies and strategies. By undertaking this research and working with partners, you will develop the knowledge and insight we need to make strategic and policy decisions. This could be anything from writing a strategy shaping the future of our transportation network, to developing our policy response to innovations in the transport sector, or undertaking community engagement on any of several major transport schemes. We are working on a range of projects including the Local Development Plan, a future LocaL Transport Plan, supplementary planning guidance documents making it an excellent time to join our Strategic Transportation team.

We are looking for a candidate educated to degree level in a transportation, planning or related subject OR demonstrate competence through experience. to work in our Strategic Transportation Team.  This is wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary role for which the successful candidate will be involved in development and analysis of transport policy.  The successful candidate will lead the active travel programme.

The candidate must have experience of dealing with queries and preparing correspondence and reports, knowledge of key legislation and policy including Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country planning Act 1990.  The candidate must have a good all-round knowledge of UK transport  policy particularly transport policy in Wales and the workings of local government in Wales.  Within this role you will liaise with the Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, other local authorities, and provide technical input to regional strategy.
