Salary Range: £32,301 - £37,491

Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Streetscene team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all highway networks, foot-ways, bridges and lighting on all public roads, contributing to the well-being of our community and creating a sustainable public realm. The Sustainable Transport and Engagement team deliver smarter travel and road safety programmes to influence behaviour change towards safer and more sustainable forms of travel..

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transport Planner to assist in managing and progressing a wide range of interesting projects at the forefront of transport planning. You will be involved in resolving many of the newest issues in local government such as on-street electric vehicle charging, car clubs and dockless bike rentals.

You will support the innovative and creative transport planning team by assessing a wide range of opportunities for change, whilst delivering the statutory and legal obligations in a politically sensitive and customer-focused manner. Through ensuring that the evidence is clearly set out and analysed, you will provide essential background material to inform important decisions. Similarly the collection, assembly and analysis of data will help confirm the validity of actions and guide the way forward. In this way you can truly help shape future developments in this important and unique London Borough

The role affords the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity as well as skills of negotiation and persuasion to ensure the borough gets the most from partner involvement. You will work under direct supervision of a senior transport planner but there will be opportunities to take the lead in some project work.

A relevant degree or equivalent is a minimum requirement. Experience, or further qualifications, in Transport Planning or a relevant skill such as project management would be an advantage. You will need to demonstrate report writing skills, knowledge of transport policy, a capacity for interpreting transport strategies, and excellent verbal communication skills. Analysis skills should ensure at the very least familiarity with things such as the PIVOT and LOOKUP elements of Excel.

Knowledge of GIS will be a considerable benefit. You will also have shown confidence engaging with and managing the expectations of stakeholders including politicians.
