Deliver a transformative Transport Strategy
Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. By dealing with a wide range of transport planning issues from major strategic transport projects to road safety education, our Transport Planning & Road Safety team is central to our success.
As Principal Strategic Transport Planner, you’ll be responsible for developing, managing and implementing our Transport Strategy, which is about making our network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. You will also have responsibility for overseeing funding bids, including our TfL funding programme.
This will involve developing strategic transport policies, leading on strategic transport projects – including new rail links and travel to Heathrow airport, and ensuring our Transport Strategy aims and objectives are fully embedded into other council strategies and policies. Especially our green and economic recovery programmes.
You’ll also manage a team delivering our school travel planning programme, promote active and sustainable travel, and liaise with external partners such as TfL, WestTrans and neighbouring boroughs to ensure that our strategic transport projects benefit all of our communities.
Put simply, this role represents a fantastic opportunity to work with colleagues across the council to ensure active and sustainable travel is fully embedded into everything we do. You’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centered around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.
An experienced project and people manager with a background in transport, you’ll be able to work quickly and efficiently across a portfolio of projects. An excellent knowledge of the transport planning and policy context that exists in London is important, and you’ll have a solid understanding of best practice in the delivery of transport projects and travel-demand management initiatives.
As a skilful communicator, you’ll be able to share your knowledge and point of view with colleagues, developers, councillors and the public through clear and compelling written reports and verbal presentations. Above all, you should be passionate about working collaboratively as part of an innovative team to develop the transport network in Hounslow, helping us to achieve our challenging targets to improve safety and increase sustainable travel.
We’re based in Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre. Our investment in new technology enables our teams to work remotely and flexibly giving everyone a better work/life balance. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
