The National Bus Strategy Manager will lead on making our vision to grow patronage levels on Wiltshire’s bus’s by more than any other comparable local authority by 2027 become a reality.
The National Bus Strategy sets out a number of requirements for Local Transport Authorities in order to improve bus services and help them recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. This included the forming of an Enhanced Partnership and preparing a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).
Wiltshire Council has maintained a healthy public transport network over the past 10 years and prides itself on its positive working relationship with commercial bus operators in the region.
About the role
As the deliverer of our vision, you will be responsible for managing the implementation of the BSIP, facilitating the Enhanced Partnership, managing various bus infrastructure and promotional projects, and maintaining excellent relations with stakeholders throughout. You will also be the main contact with the Department of Transport ensuring all reporting and financial requirements are met.
The role will need you to work closely with the operational public transport and home to school transport team and contribute to other key outcomes of the business such as carbon net zero, future high streets fund and transport planning. Working as part of a team is essential as is budget and project management.
Good communication skills, both speaking and in writing, and experience of stakeholder engagement at senior levels are important qualities. Most importantly though we are looking for someone who can deliver the vision as set out in our Bus Service Improvement Plan, lead on projects, drive through and implement new schemes.
