Up to 37.5 hours per week – happy to discuss flexible working to suit individual circumstances

Base: Hybrid working, based at our London Hub near Bethnal Green

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to fill a leading role in our Neighbourhoods and Networks team delivering transport planning projects across the capital and beyond.

As the Programme Manager you will have the opportunity to sponsor a wide range of projects which tackle some of society’s most pressing challenges, including the response to the climate emergency, the unequal access to green space, and the social injustice of the dominance of private vehicles.

You will have line management responsibility for Project Managers in the team, planning and organising workload for both yourself and other members of the team. You will provide mentoring support and assisting the growth and development of the team. You will also take responsibility for ensuring the delivery of high-quality project outputs to agreed time and budget thresholds.

A core element of the role is business development, writing persuasive competitive bids for new project work and generating new opportunities. A key part of this will be building effective relationships with external partners and funders such as London Boroughs, Transport for London, local walking and cycling groups etc.

Candidates will be required to regularly attend our London hub near Bethnal Green and to travel across the capital as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans.

About you
You will have experience of leading, motivating and managing a team, with the ability to plan and prioritise individual workload and allocate tasks across the team. As an empathetic mentor, you will have experience in providing support and guidance for the growth and development of others.

With excellent written communication skills, you will be proficient in business development including bid writing, opportunity generation and budget forecasting.

We also ask you to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in active travel infrastructure projects.
