The Transport and Connectivity team brings together key elements of the Council and works together with partners to achieve that vision. To achieve this, our goal is a transport system that will connect people, communities, businesses and services in a way that supports the local economy, enhances quality of life, is reliable, efficient, safe, healthy and inclusive.

We work closely with partners in the rail industry and National Highways to ensure the national rail and road network is fit for purpose for Cornwall’s communities. We also look for opportunities for innovative and efficient improvements to our transport in Cornwall while maintaining links with the rest of the UK. Cornwall has a proven track record in developing and delivering major projects with the most recent success the award of a £50 million grant from the Levelling Up Fund for the Mid Cornwall Metro.

Team Leader
The Transport and Connectivity team is looking for a Team Leader who can led on the development of major transport schemes, and oversee the design, financial management and consultation of a range of highways and transportation schemes across Cornwall.

The role holder will need to work with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally to the Council. Demonstrating proven experience of this will be required, including engaging with communities, politicians and statutory bodies. The role will also be responsible for complying with the internal processes of financial and contract management, commissioning services and working with the Finance and Legal Teams within the Council.

About you
We are looking for an individual with engineering knowledge and experience of delivering major and minor transport schemes from inception through scheme development to implementation. The role holder will need to interpret the requirements of external stakeholders and demonstrate experience in managing complex projects. You will lead meetings with other teams, consultants, contractors, service providers and other stakeholders as required. With specific areas of work you will need to able to work independently and prepare reports for Council and public meetings.

Experience of business case assessments and associated documentation and processes involved with the commissioning and delivery of transport projects and programmes is essential. Being able to demonstrate experience of working with other teams and external stakeholders will be particularly useful.

The successful candidate will represent the Councils strategic transport interests in both a regional and national capacity, including liaising with central Government departments and local MP’s, the Peninsula Sub national Transport Body, and the Tamar crossings.
