An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainable Transport Planner to join our Sustainable Transport Policy and Programmes team. You will join an industry leading team with a track record of delivering innovative, and award winning sustainable transport schemes. Your role will assist in managing and progressing a wide range of interesting projects at the forefront of sustainable transport planning.
Working alongside the Senior and Principal Transport Planners, the successful candidate will support the management of a range of kerbside projects which aim to reduce the dominance of private vehicles and make urban realm space more sustainable, accessible and climate resilient. Projects include the borough’s ambitious expansion of secure cycle parking and car clubs, as well as a variety of other kerbside schemes such as Hackney’s, cargo bike hire and community parklets programme.

The role will support the innovative and creative transport planning team by assessing a wide range of opportunities for change, whilst delivering the statutory and legal obligations in a politically sensitive and customer-focused manner. By ensuring that the evidence is clearly set out and analysed, you will provide essential reports and background material and inform important decisions. Similarly the collection, assembly and analysis of data will help confirm the validity of actions and guide the way forward. In this way you can truly help shape future developments in this important and unique London Borough.

The role affords the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity as well as skills of negotiation and persuasion to ensure the borough gets the most from partner involvement. You will work under direct supervision of a senior transport planner but there will be opportunities to take the lead in some project work.

A relevant degree or equivalent experience is a minimum requirement. Experience, or further qualifications, in Transport Planning or a relevant skill such as project management would be an advantage. You will need to demonstrate report writing skills, knowledge of transport policy, a capacity for interpreting transport strategies, and excellent verbal communication skills. Analysis skills should ensure, at the very least, familiarity with things such as the PIVOT and LOOKUP elements of Excel. Knowledge of GIS will be a considerable benefit. You will also have shown confidence dealing with correspondence from a range of stakeholders including politicians.
