This is an exciting time to be a Senior Engineer within the Transportation Infrastructure Service at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.  We have been successful in obtaining significant amounts of competitive funding, tied to the development and delivery of high quality transport schemes.  These range from small scale, locally defined improvements, to large scale bus priority schemes and active travel networks.

You will be responsible for providing high quality and customer focussed professional and technical advice on matters associated with the Council’s transport engineering functions.  This will ultimately ensure compliance with the Department for Transport design standards, whilst delivering against the strategic ambitions of the Council’s corporate objectives and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Local Transport Plan.

The role includes leading and managing the design and delivery of transport schemes in liaison with other teams within the Transportation Infrastructure Service.  You will need to draw on your experience to collect and utilise technical data, in order to prepare cost estimates, user specifications, drawings, contract documents, bills of quantities and schedules of work.

You will have the autonomy to provide consultancy advice and produce comprehensive technical reports for Council representatives and clients.  This includes developing briefs, issuing work for detailed design, liaising with other services, outside bodies/agencies, and partners, to help foster co-operation and consensus and the provision of customer focussed schemes.

Team management is a key feature of the role, with the responsibility to supervise technical staff within the team, ensuring planning, allocating and completing tasks to time and quality specifications.  This includes benchmarking team standards, monitoring and reviewing standard procedures as necessary.
