We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Transport Planner to lead on the development of transport related planning, policy, strategy and modelling, as well as support crucial and regionally significant transport and infrastructure development projects.

This role will be central to supporting the growth and economic recovery of the region through the UK Central Investment Plan which is responsible for delivering the Council’s Growth and Development Investment Programme in support of West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Government funded workstreams.  These workstreams consist of a wide variety of development, infrastructure and transport projects of varying scale and complexity

As Principal Transport Planner, you will work with our Group Managers to develop and deliver policy measures, strategies and projects set out within Solihull Council’s recently adopted transport strategy ‘Solihull Connected 2023’, contributing towards delivery of the Solihull Draft Local Plan.  You will also work closely with the UK Central Growth Programmes and Commissioning teams, to ensure projects are resourced to be delivered to the required scope and quality, within budget and on time.

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner who will be able to lead the development of appropriate policy and strategy that will maintain the momentum on delivering key projects.  Educated to HNC (Level 4) or above in a relevant subject you will be able to demonstrate relevant work experience in transport planning matters and programme or complex project.

Well versed in project management processes, you will have a track record of successfully managing multiple and complex projects specifically around transport infrastructure and development. You will also have:

- Experience of analysis, reporting and presentation of performance and management information.

- Experience of financial management to ensure project compliance, including grant claims, audit and external funding requirements are met.

- Ability to engage and build relationships with a wide range of major stakeholders at all levels and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.

- Experience of the application of the DfT Transport Appraisal Process and transport modelling techniques would be an advantage.
