Transport Planning Apprentice
Scale 3 - £15,000 - £16,000
Fixed Term Contract – 36 Months
London

Would you like to be a part of The London Borough of Hounslow, whose diverse workforce are committed to making a positive difference for our residents and visitors by ensuring the quality of our services are maintained to a high standard?

The Council is embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise the way we work and reduce our carbon footprint. In April 2019 we moved to Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre, our new technology will enable staff to work remotely and flexibly to improve the service we provide to residents and to help our staff achieve a better work/life balance.

For those of us in the Transport team, this means making our streets safer for everyone, and getting more people walking and cycling. Through these aims, we can increase levels of physical activity, and take the urgent action needed to improve our air quality and respond to the Climate Emergency. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, then we have an exciting role for you!

As a Transport Planning Apprentice, you’ll gain practical experience in addition to your professional training, and you’ll receive all the support you need to succeed in your career as a Transport Planner.

To give you an idea how Transport Planning works, our Apprentices’ responsibilities may include:

• Assessing impacts of potential transport measures, such as bike lanes or zebra crossings
• Considering implications of planning applications for developments – new flats, for example
• Developing consultation materials to ask residents what they think of our proposals
• Responding professionally to transport enquiries from local residents and elected councillors
• Working with schools on travel plans to help students make safer, more sustainable journeys

Ideally, you’ll need to have some existing skills to join us. For example, you’ll be great with customers, and know your way around a computer – especially Microsoft Office. You’ll also be confident working with colleagues, residents and councillors – all at different levels. But most importantly, you’ll need a keen interest in transport!

Transport Planning is extremely varied, and this is just a sample of the kind of work you would do. We would help you develop your career in line with your skills and interests. If you’d like an informal conversation about the role, please contact Seth Twombley via email: [email protected]
