London Borough of Hounslow
Senior Transport Projects Officer

Shape the future of transport across our forward-thinking borough
Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. And by helping to make this a prosperous, healthy, accessible and safe environment for all, our Capital Projects team is right at the heart of it.
Join us as a Senior Transport Projects Officer, and you’ll play a key role in the delivery of Hounslow’s Transport Strategy, which is about making our network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. Your focus will be on engineering and transportation projects ranging from minor improvements to £multi-million infrastructure projects. Think charging points for electric cars. More bike lanes. A better walking network. Greater accessibility for those with mobility needs. It’s a role that will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities. Especially as you’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.
Your specific responsibilities will include project managing the development, implementation and evaluation of a range of innovative traffic and transport-related initiatives and schemes. It will involve working closely with external consultants and Hounslow Highways to ensure these initiatives and schemes are delivered on time and on budget. These complex projects will have a value of up to c£1m within a total portfolio worth up to £2m. You’ll also actively contribute to the efficient delivery of our service plan.
Educated to a degree level (or equivalent), you’ll have a proven track record of delivering complex projects, preferably in a transport-related field. That will include managing project teams and working with consultants. An understanding of current best practice in the promotion of sustainable transport is essential, both in terms of infrastructure design and behaviour change initiatives. Excellent engagement and communication skills are also a must – you’ll be able to summarise complex proposals using non-technical language in order to present to public audiences both in writing and verbally.
In addition, we’ll want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can see our innovative projects through from design to delivery with flair and focus.
We’re based in Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre. Our investment in new technology enables our teams to work remotely and flexibly giving everyone a better work/life balance. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
