Your modelling and analysis skills will keep the city moving.
London is a world-class city that’s home to 8.6 million people and visited every year by 19 million more. Keeping it working, moving and growing is a huge challenge, but one that TfL rises to every day. Our Public Transport Service Planning team works across London Buses, DLR, London Overground, London Trams, London Underground and TfL Rail to achieve the optimal balance of journey time, capacity, reliability and value for money. We now have an opportunity for an expert in modelling and analysis to support key business decisions.

Influence our business direction
As a Planner, you’ll provide strategic and tactical support on short-, medium- and long-term plans for public transport service changes, ensuring the customer is at the heart of decision-making. These could range from issues impacting over a few days to our ten-year business plan and beyond. You might also contribute to major, £multi-million external transport programmes in which Tfl has contractual involvement, such as national rail station upgrades. Using modelling, forecasting and analysis, you’ll provide quantitative measurement of the potential impact on journey times, including the effects of crowding and congestion. We’ll look to you to maintain our models to ensure that they are up to date, validated, calibrated and fit for purpose.

For a planner, there’s no challenge quite like TfL
A degree-level qualification in a highly numerate discipline (or equivalent experience) is essential. You’ll have high-level skills in computer modelling and analysis, ideally combined with some experience of forecasting demand, revenue and cost. Insights into transport planning and business case development would be helpful. You’ll be competent in using Excel and ideally able to code in VBA, R, Python or similar.

The qualities you need to succeed
Rigorous in your approach to data collection and analysis, you’ll also bring a creative approach to developing and running models that help to deliver innovation and excellent customer service. Highly organised, you can manage your own workload and work effectively as part of multiple teams. Able to communicate effectively and persuasively to stakeholders, you’re equipped to enable data-led decision-making.

The rewards are as impressive as your achievements
In return for your expertise, we’ll offer you an excellent benefits package including a final salary pension scheme and a generous holiday entitlement of 30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays. You can make significant savings on travel thanks to a free Oyster Card travel pass, a 75% discount on national rail season ticket and interest-free loan, and discounted travel on the Eurostar. You can also choose to take advantage of a discounted private healthcare scheme, tax-efficient childcare payments and a host of retail, health, leisure and travel offers.
