North Hertfordshire is a large rural district with approximately 125,000 residents with four historic towns, Hitchin, Baldock, Royston and Letchworth Garden City. The Council has a clear vision: to make North Hertfordshire a district in which everyone who lives, works or visits is able to flourish.

Our new Local Plan is currently at Examination. It aims to deliver 13,000 new homes by 2031. We are looking for a forward-thinking and enthusiastic Transport or Senior Transport Officer to work together with the Strategic Planning & Infrastructure teams to assist in developing sustainable transport initiatives that would deliver these plans whilst also looking at sustainable transport options for the longer term. You will be responsible for progressing initiatives set out in the Council’s Transport Strategy and developing a Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan. There will be opportunities to represent the Council interests in strategic and other local transport matters, including providing policy and technical advice on masterplans for strategic sites and on other planning matters, town centre strategies and parking standards.

Applicants with at least two-years post-qualification experience in transport planning, and experience in partnership working are particularly sought.

You will require a relevant Transport or Town Planning qualification and should be eligible to work towards full membership of the CIHT, ICE or RTPI (or a relevant accredited Transport Institute).

You will need to be well organised with proven verbal, written and presentation skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines. You should also possess initiative and good interpersonal skills and be familiar with IT.
