ATKINS

Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin group, provides consultancy and advisory services to ensure the successful planning, designing and enabling of transport and environmental improvements, across all scales of development. We build strong client relationships by understanding the challenges they face, sharing their vision and helping them transform potential into reality. We understand that effective transport strategies are shaped around people, not roads, cars, bikes or buses.

Atkins’ Transportation Consultancy Practice consists of 900 people and within this, our Transport Planning business is home to some 300 people. This includes planners, economists, engineers, communications specialists, modellers and mathematicians all providing a wide range of services. Effective transport planning is essential in order to meet long term policy and investment decisions for a sustainable future and delivering this is an exciting challenge. Atkins identifies and develops the optimum transport solution to overcome these challenges, ensuring that an appropriate and sustainable transport network is delivered.

We work across four technical disciplines which cover the full range of transport planning capabilities

In Strategy we provide consultancy advice to public sector clients at the early stage of the planning lifecycle; working with clients to shape their objectives, problem solve, identify and shortlist policy, service and infrastructure interventions.

Our Transport modellers undertake detail assessment for the future transport systems at both strategic and micro simulation scales to inform decision making regarding new transport schemes.

We provide Economics and Business Case expertise covering all areas of economic analysis, wider appraisal and development of business cases for transport investment, delivery and operation.

Our Cities discipline covers development planning, the assessment of public realm, space planning and sustainable access strategies, making use of innovative technologies such as the Atkins virtual street design tool.

We recognise that our people are integral to the success of Atkins, and provide them with comprehensive training and development activities designed to help our staff make the best of their abilities and talents. Investing in developing skills, knowledge and capacity and the ongoing provision of opportunities allows individuals to build long lasting careers and shape the future of transport infrastructure.
