Sustainable Transport Development Officer
Starting salary £29,854 pa
Hertford
37 hours per week, permanent
An opportunity has arisen for a new Sustainable Transport Development Officer within the Network and Travel Planning Team, in the Transport, Access and Road Safety Unit.
Forecasts predict that by 2050, the population of Hertfordshire will have grown by around 400,000 to over 1.5m, having a major impact on traffic congestion and journey times, particularly during peak travel periods. To date, 30 Air Quality Management Areas have been designated, and obesity costs the county an estimated £404 million per year.
The Network and Travel Planning Team seeks to make Hertfordshire’s transport network more sustainable, increasing opportunities for residents to travel by public transport, walking and cycling, facilitating behaviour change, and reducing people’s reliance on single-occupancy cars.
The role of the Sustainable Transport Development Officers is to work with the planning process to secure travel plans which maximise sustainable access to new developments, to gain developer contributions towards improved services, and ensure sustainable options are considered in all other transport schemes. They also work with existing major employers to help their staff travel more sustainably, and bid for other funding opportunities to support this work.
The role is very varied and fast-paced with regular deadlines, and requires someone who is comfortable working with people across multiple teams and organisations, and is committed to the outcomes of sustainable transport.
