Position details

This is an exciting opportunity to join Telford & Wrekin Council’s Streetworks Team to provide technical advice and support within the Transport and Highway Development Service area.

Telford a new town has its roots in the 1960s but this doesn’t mean we’re stuck in the past. Over the last 50 years the town has grown and developed into a hub of innovation and investment.

Telford & Wrekin Council is ambitious, always looking to develop, improve and attract investment. The Council has recently delivered a number of exciting projects including the new £250m Southwater Development and £12m Box Road Transport Scheme. Over the next three years the Council is embarking on a significant investment programme in the highways and transport network including:

  • £1.9m New Telford Bus Station
  • £17.3m Telford Growth Point Package
  • £3.6m M54 Junction 4
  • £12m Telford Town Centre Connectivity Package
  • £5m highways capital programme

As a Permits Officer you will undertake technical work related to streetworks management to ensure that the Council fulfils its duties under legislation such as the Traffic Management Act (TMA) and New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA).

This role will involve monitoring and processing all incoming Traffic Management Act (TMA) Public utility and Highway Authority permits sent to the Streetworks Team electronically via the Streetworks register in order to coordinate works within the Borough.

In addition to managing permits and the associated traffic management requirements, you will be expected to find, recognise and record utilities for unreasonably prolonged occupation of the highway for past and potential Section 74 income and enforce regulations set out in the TMA such as Fixed Penalty Notices.

This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of streetworks co-ordination and management of the highway network within the Borough to support the significant growth potential and support the creation of new housing and jobs.

We are committed to equality and diversity.

Closing date for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 29 June 2016.
