City of London

Group Manager – Strategic Transportation

The Department of Built Environment

£52,460 -£59,970 inclusive of Inner London Weighting, depending on experience/performance

The City Corporation is one of the most exciting and challenging places to work in the country. We have recently delivered a number of award winning schemes such as Holborn Circus (voted London’s best new public space at the recent London Planning Awards). Other major schemes in progress are the removal of Aldgate Gyratory and the redesign of Bank Junction; home of the Bank of England and the Lord Mayor’s Mansion House.

Here, in the City, we are also absolutely committed to reducing road danger whilst maximising the efficiency of our highway network. All this is part of our determined effort to deliver a built environment and transport strategy that supports the Square Mile in remaining the world’s leading business city. To achieve this we have restructured our City Transportation service and created several genuine vacancies for managers with the passion and flare to drive excellence across our services.

This is a real opportunity to work hand in hand with major businesses in shaping a world class city for the future. If you feel you have the appetite, skills and ability to shape and then deliver ‘our future City’ we would be delighted to hear from you.

London is changing fast and so is the City of London. You will help to recruit and then lead a team of six transport professionals. A key early task will be to identify the movement and place role of each street within the City, in line with the Roads Task Force Street Type methodology.

You will work closely with colleagues in other central London Authorities to identify and deliver a shared agenda. A key output of your work will be strategies for movement within the City of London. There will also be a strong emphasis on freight and parking strategy.

We need you if you are driven, ambitious and can make things happen. Above all, you must be able to influence opinion and communicate effectively with a myriad of internal and external stakeholders including major City businesses.

The closing date for all applications is 12 noon on Friday 29th April 2016.
