Title: Senior Transport Planner Policy

Southampton City Council has been selected by the Department for Transport as one of 12 cities that are due to receive a share of the £1.3bn Transforming Cities Fund. The Council will be embarking on an ambitious programme to deliver projects that are underpinned by a strong transport policy foundation that will transform transport connections and interchanges, deliver the Southampton Mass Transit System and make the city centre a better place to live, supported by sustainable development.

This role would allow the successful candidate to help shape Southampton’s transport network and systems with influence at a local and strategic level supporting long term improvements to Public Transport, Public Realm, Cycling, ITS, Parking, Walking, and Road Safety that provide a strong platform for sustainable economic growth.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in developing and delivering transport strategies and policy and have experience in integrating transport policy alongside core Highways Development Management tasks that support the sustainable growth ambitions of urban areas that are aligned with other city plans including the City Local Plan.

The successful candidate will be able to develop city plans on transport, with a focus on specific growth strategies including Intelligent Transport, Public Realm, Walking & Cycling, Behaviour Changes and Marketing Strategies. As well as supporting the Transport Delivery Team to ensure transport strategy and policy establishes a forward programme of transport projects as identified in the LTP Implementation Plan and supporting documents.

You should be able to provide highway development management advice, guidance and assistance in written comment in all forms of planning applications, pre-application discussions and informal proposals, Section 38, 106 and 278 agreements, planning appeals and enforcement investigations as directed by the Transport Policy Team Leader.
